Wolverines walk off Cougars in spring opener

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team opened the spring schedule with a walk-off win over Mount Vernon Nazarene University at the RussMatt Invitational Saturday in Auburndale, Fla.

Down one, the Wolverines tied the score in the eighth, and UM-Dearborn's offensive leader in the fall, Ryan Beadle, came through again. Beadle drove home Andrew Capone for the game-winning run with a single to give the Wolverines a 6-5 win.

The win moves UM-Dearborn to 6-2-1 overall.

Capone finished with three hits, a home run shy of the cycle. He added three runs and two RBIs. Daniel Kerr also finished with three hits, while recording an RBI and a walk. Beadle, Shaun Hannibal and Antonio Carta each added two hits.

John Dyda got the start on the mound for the Wolverines, pitching six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, while walking one and striking out five. Matt Buhagiar pitched the ninth inning and earned the win.

The Wolverines finished with six runs on 14 hits and one error.

UM-Dearborn returns to action against Judson University at 10:45 am Sunday in Auburndale, Fla.
