Wolverines use 19-0 run to top Golden Eagles

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team rallied from an early deficit to escape with a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win over Cornerstone University Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Wolverines trailed by 18 points in the first half, but took control late in the third and held off the Golden Eagles in the final quarter to earn a 75-67 win. The victory is the fourth straight for the Wolverines, who move to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in the WHAC.

The Golden Eagles outscored the Wolverines 23-8 in the first quarter and saw their lead balloon to 18 in the second. UM-Dearborn responded in the third, going on a 19-0 run to move in front.

After the teams traded baskets in the fourth, with the lead changing several times, the Wolverines edged in front with a Mariah Taylor 3-pointer and held on the rest of the way.

Ro'Zhane Wells led the Wolverines with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, adding six rebounds. Maricela Macias finished with 18 points and five rebounds off the bench, while Sade Lemons added 15 points.

The Wolverines shot 25-of-68 from the field, 8-of-26 from deep and 17-of-26 from the line.

Shelby Nyboer led Cornerstone with 18 points and seven rebounds.

UM-Dearborn returns to action against Lawrence Tech at 1 pm next Saturday in Southfield, Mich.
