Wolverine fight hard, but fall to Warriors in five

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team returned to action Saturday afternoon by traveling to take on the Indiana Tech Warriors in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match-up in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The match would go the distance to determine a winner, as the Warriors and Wolverines would trade off the first four sets. The Wolverines would fall short in search of the comeback 19-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-22, 8-15, as Indiana Tech pulled away in the deciding set.

The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 8-22 overall and 5-13 in the WHAC.

Leading the Wolverines was Gina Giacomini and Kristin Maust with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Sabrina Giacomini would continue her strong play by adding 33 assists, while Kenzie Mertz recorded a match-high 39 digs.

The Warriors were led by Taylor Paul and Emma Westra, with 14 kills each.

The Wolverines return to action at 7pm Wednesday against the Aquinas College Saints at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.
