Wolverines Drop Home Contest Against Midway
A decisive first quarter put the Wolverines on their heels early, and despite stretches of strong play, Michigan-Dearborn dropped an 88–65 decision to Midway on Tuesday afternoon in Dearborn.
DEARBORN, Mich. – A slow start proved too much to overcome for the University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team, as the Wolverines fell 88–65 to Midway University on Tuesday afternoon at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
Midway opened the game with a decisive 26–9 first quarter, using efficient perimeter shooting and early defensive pressure to seize control. Michigan-Dearborn responded with a stronger second period, outscoring the Eagles 21–22 and finding more rhythm offensively, but still trailed 48–30 at the break.
The Wolverines continued to battle in the second half, with stretches of strong interior play and improved ball movement, but Midway's depth and shooting consistency allowed the visitors to maintain their lead. The Eagles shot 48.6 percent from the field and connected on nine three-pointers.
Senior guard Marissa Thomas led UM-Dearborn with 19 points, adding five rebounds and four assists while converting 9-of-11 at the free-throw line. Tamia Tounsel delivered a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, anchoring the Wolverines inside and contributing four assists. Bailey Stimac added 12 points and two steals in a full 37-minute effort, while Sydney Dixon finished with five points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Michigan-Dearborn finished 43.1 percent from the field and 77.3 percent at the line but was hindered by 26 turnovers, which Midway converted into consistent scoring opportunities.
Midway was led by Alexys Moore with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting, while Jacie Chesser added 16 points and five rebounds.
