DEARBORN, Mich. - After a strong opening to the season, which included a near-perfect win, senior Gina Verduzco (SR/Portage, MI) earned a weekly conference award on Monday.

After throwing a no-hitter against SUNY Delhi on Thursday and picking up her third win of the season on Friday, Verduzco was named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.

The Wolverines went 5-5 during the spring trip to South Carolina, including wins in their final three games.

Verduzco's no hitter was the first of her career. She faced one batter over the minimum, striking out 11 in a 13-0 win over the Broncos. Verduzco was needed for just two innings against Penn State University Schuykill, but struck out four in limited action.

This season, Verduzco has allowed one earned run in 22 innings pitched, while striking out 22. She has two complete games and one shutout.

The Wolverines continue the non-conference season with four games this weekend at Taylor University, starting against the Trojans (RV) at 3 pm Friday in Upland, Ind.
