Women's Soccer Opens WHAC Season Saturday

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's soccer team is set to open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play against Lourdes University on the road Saturday.

The Wolverines enter WHAC action with a record of 1-3-0 overall after four nonconference contests. UM-Dearborn opened the season with a home loss to Huntington University before picking up the second win in program history, topping Goshen College 2-1 on Aug. 31 at home.

UM-Dearborn enters this weekend having lost its last two, falling to No. 18 Cumberland University 4-1 and Adrian College 2-0.

Last season, the Wolverines earned the first win in program history in a victory at home over Lourdes, with, now senior, Jenna Rogers netting the game-winning goal. UM-Dearborn will look to repeat the result with a road matchup with the Gray Wolves at noon on Saturday in Sylvania, Ohio.

UM-Dearborn returns home for its following two WHAC matchups, hosting Lawrence Tech on Wednesday and Cleary University on Oct. 5. The Wolverines conclude the regular season with Senior Day against Indiana Tech on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Gabriel Richard High School, in Riverview, Mich.

The Wolverines have been led by key veterans and several fresh faces in 2019. Among the new team members making an impact are forward Gabriella Teems, midfielders Marta Andreu and Melanie Skamiera, and defender Madalyn Mosallam.

Junior goalkeeper Jordan Anheuser has continued her run of playing in every minute of every game since the program started in 2017. This season she has stopped 77 percent of shots faced, making 35 saves in four games.
