ADRIAN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team overcame an early deficit to cut a double-digit lead for Siena Heights University to six at the half in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Saturday in Adrian, Mich.
The Saints regained control in the second half and pulled away to top the Wolverines 71-52. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 4-9 overall and 0-6 in the WHAC.
The Wolverines closed the second quarter on a 12-3 run on the strength of three 3-pointers to cut a 15-point SHU lead to six at the break. The Saints rebounded to control the third quarter 25-8 to secure the win.
Junior Emily Heinrich (JR/South Lyon, MI) led the Wolverines with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while hitting a pair of shots from deep. Sophomore Sade Lemons (SO/Sterling Heights, MI) added 13 points, including three 3-pointers, while adding six rebounds. Senior Megan Swick (SR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) and junior Natalie Spala (JR/Livonia, MI) each scored seven points off the bench, while Meredith Williams (SR/Novi, Mich.) added four steals.
The Wolverines shot 20-of-62 from the field, 9-of-28 from deep and 3-of-6 at the line.
SHU got a game-high 16 points from Sharmaine Wills, while Demi Russell added 12.
UM-Dearborn returns home for two straight WHAC contests, starting with a matchup against No. 24 Lawrence Tech at 5:30 pm Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
