No. 8 Indiana Tech pulls away from UM-Dearborn women

DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team continued Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play against No. 8 Indiana Institute of Technology Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines fell behind 25-8 after the first quarter and despite a strong defensive effort to start the second half, the Warriors extended their win streak to 15 games with a 76-43 victory. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 6-19 overall and 1-15 in the WHAC.

UM-Dearborn held the Warriors off the board for the first five minutes of the second half, but were unable to get the early deficit to single digits. The combination of Kaley Cook and Keanna Gary finished with 49 total points to help Indiana Tech pull away.

Sophomore Jeorgia Jones (SO/Detroit, MI) led the Wolverines with 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Junior Natalie Spala (JR/Livonia, MI) added seven points, while seniors Meredith Williams (SR/Novi, Mich.) and Megan Swick (SR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) each finished with six points.

UM-Dearborn shot 18-of-59 from the field, 4-of-21 from deep and 3-of-6 at the line, while being outrebounded 50-28.

Cook finished with 25 points, including four 3-pointers, while Gary, the reigning NAIA Division II Player of the Week, recorded 24 points and 16 rebounds.

The Wolverines travel to Aquinas College for a WHAC matchup at 1 pm Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich.
