Wolverine women drop close contest to Saints

DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team battled Siena Heights University in a back-and-forth Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

UM-Dearborn led 27-17 at the end of the first half, which included the Wolverines opening the game on a 9-0 run. The Saints rallied late in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 40-38 heading to the fourth.

Sophomore Jeorgia Jones (SO/Detroit, MI) scored seven points in the final 10 minutes, but the Saints got two late layups from Haley Hoffman to secure a 56-54 win over the Wolverines. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 6-17 overall and 1-13 in the WHAC.

Jones led the Wolverines with 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting, while grabbing five rebounds. Sophomore Sade Lemons (SO/Sterling Heights, MI) added 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Senior Meredith Williams (SR/Novi, Mich.) finished with a team-high 10 rebounds and five steals.

The Wolverines shot 18-of-54 from the field, 9-of-24 from deep and 9-of-13 from the line, while outrebounding the Saints 39-33.

SHU was led by Hoffman with 13 points off the bench, while Azalea Miller and Taylar McNeal each finished with 11 points. McNeal added a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Wolverines continue WHAC play on the road against Lawrence Technological University at 6 pm Wednesday in Southfield, Mich.
