Early push leads Aquinas past UM-Dearborn women

DEARBORN, Mich. - Aquinas College outscored the University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team 23-7 in the first quarter and held off attempted Wolverine rallies in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Saints closed the game on top 58-33 over UM-Dearborn, which falls to 5-15 overall and 0-11 in the WHAC.

The Wolverines were led by Sade Lemons (SO/Sterling Heights, MI) with 16 points, including four 3-pointers. She added four rebounds and three steals. Senior Meredith Williams (SR/Novi, Mich.) came into the contest ranked fourth in the NAIA Division II in total steals and picked up five more against Aquinas.

UM-Dearborn shot 11-of-53 from the field, 4-of-20 from deep and 7-of-8 from the line, while being outrebounded 47-32.

The Saints were led by Bri Spica with 15 points off the bench.

The Wolverines travel to Lourdes University for WHAC matchup at 1 pm Saturday in Sylvania, Ohio.
