Cole Nets Two In Win Against Goshen

Cole Nets Two In Win Against Goshen

GOSHEN, Ind.-- Christian Cole netted two goals in quick succession to give the University of Michigan-Dearborn (1-1-0) three points on Saturday (Aug 27) against Goshen (0-1-1).

Inside the First Half

The Maple Leafs tested the Wolverine defense early, forcing them to fend off an early array of shots and set pieces. However, the Maize & Blue maintained their composure and waited for their opportunity to strike. That opportunity came in the 26th minute when the Wolverines went on the counter-attack. Nicolas Pulcini delivered a wonderfully weighted through ball from the halfway line to the foot of Cole at the top of the box. No stranger to the opponent's final third, Cole struck it cleanly and off the inside of the woodwork past the Goshen keeper for his second goal in as many games.

The Wolverines struck again in quick succession as just four minutes later, UM-Dearborn found themselves at the corner flag. Robi Redzic whipped a ball into the box, again finding its way to Cole, who struck it on the half-volley and beat the keeper to the far post for the 2-0 lead. The Maple Leafs continued to test Elijah Burlak in net, who made four first half saves to keep the 2-0 lead heading into the break.

Inside the Second Half

Both sides exchanged chances in the second half, with both keepers needing to make crucial saves during the half. The Maple Leafs got one back in the 69th minute when the Purple and Black were able to get one past Burlak to bring them within one. However, it was too little too late as the Wolverines were able to hold on for the final 21 minutes and walk away with three points at the away ground.
