Wolverines split with Trolls to close play at RussMatt

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team concluded play at the 2020 RussMatt Invitational with a doubleheader against Trinity Christian College Tuesday in Winter Haven, Fla.

The Wolverines fell 13-5 in the opener before earning the split with a 7-3 victory in the finale to move to 7-10 overall on the season.

In game one, TCC went up 7-0 after three innings. Justin Dolney and Max Tomaszewski each picked up an RBI in the sixth to get UM-Dearborn on the board. Shaun Hannibal added a two-run double in the seventh, followed by Ryan Beadle with an RBI single.

Malcom Harris got the start and took the loss on the mound, allowing seven runs, six earned, on five hits, while walking two and striking out four.

UM-Dearborn scored two in the second and four in the third to take control of game two. Shane Fugate broke the ice with a two-run home run in the second for UM-Dearborn, while Robert Begley and Fugate added RBI singles in the third. Evan Morin added a two-run single to make it 6-0. Hannibal gave UM-Dearborn an insurance run with an RBI double in the sixth.

Hannibal, Fugate and Morin each finished with two hits in the win. Garrett Davis earned the win on the mound with 5.2 innings pitched, allowing three runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out four.

The Wolverines are off on Wednesday before shifting to the Warner Invitational starting against Spring Arbor University at 9:15 am Thursday in Lake Wales, Fla.
