Ewald earns first ever UM-Dearborn CoSIDA honor

DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team continues to pile up postseason awards for the 2017 season.

It was announced Thursday, Jordan Ewald (JR/Wixom, MI) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team for her performance this year on the field and in the classroom. The award is the first of its kind for any UM-Dearborn student-athlete in the school's history.

CoSIDA began the distinguished Academic All-America program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America scholar-athlete honors. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.

A total of 16 student-athletes from each district, comprised of multiple states, are selected for the award based on academic achievement and excellence in competition. All-District winners move on to a national vote for the CoSIDA All-American Team, to be voted on by member Sports Information Directors and announced later this month.

Ewald maintains a near perfect grade point average, majoring in Journalism and Screen Studies/Communications at UM-Dearborn. She is involved in numerous student committees and activities around campus, while being named a captain as a junior for the Wolverines.

On the field this season, Ewald is batting .354 and slugging .667 with 12 doubles, six home runs, 19 runs scored and 28 RBIs.

The Wolverines continue play in the WHAC Tournament in an elimination game against the University of Northwestern Ohio at noon Monday in Sylvania, Ohio.
