ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team continued to pound the ball at the plate in a sweep over the University of Northwestern Ohio in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Sunday at Alumni Field in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Wolverines scored five unanswered runs to take game one 5-1, while a big three-run home run from Jordan Ewald (JR/Wixom, MI) lifted UM-Dearborn to a 6-3 win in the finale. The Wolverines have won seven straight, pushing the team's overall record to 18-6-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the WHAC.

After UNOH jumped in front with a solo home run in the third, the Wolverines answered right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning. The rally started with Taylor Moceri (SR/Sterling Heights, MI) scoring on an error, followed by a Kylie Hill (SR/Adrian, MI) RBI double to left field. Ewald put UM-Dearborn up 3-1 with a sacrifice fly.

UM-Dearborn added a pair of runs in the sixth, including RBI singles from Sarah Prashad (SO/Mississauga, Ontario) and Kassidy Butler (SO/Parchment, MI), who finished with four hits and two doubles in the win. Alexandra Elwell (SR/Kalamazoo, MI) (4-1) got the start on the mound for the Wolverines, throwing five innings, allowing one run on four hits, while striking out three and getting the win. Gina Verduzco (JR/Portage, MI) picked up the save in relief with two innings of no-hit pitching, striking out four.

UNOH went ahead in the third inning for second straight game in the finale, bolstered by a lead-off home run. Hill got one back for the Wolverines in the bottom of third, while a Butler single cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fifth.

UM-Dearborn went ahead for good with Ewald's third home run of the weekend and her sixth of the season. Butler finished the game with three hits, pushing her weekend total to 10 over four games. She is now batting .516 for the season with a team-high 29 RBIs.

Verduzco (9-3) got the start on the mound and went the distance, tossing seven innings, allowing three runs, two earned on five hits, while striking out three.

The Wolverines continue their home stand with a doubleheader against Cornerstone University at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Alumni Field.
