CLERMONT, Fla. - After a much deserved day off, the University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team returned to the field for three more, including a doubleheader with Alma College (ranked No. 10 in NCAA Division III) Thursday in Clermont, Fla.

The Wolverines went 2-1 for the third straight day of competition, splitting with Alma and topping Calumet College of St. Joseph 4-3. The Wolverines edged Alma 2-1 in the opener before falling 12-5 in the second matchup. UM-Dearborn moves to 8-3 on the season with four more games on the schedule before returning to Michigan.

In the opener against the Scots, UM-Dearborn got on the board first with an single off the bat of Kylie Hill (SR/Adrian, MI) in the third inning, driving in Riley Hison (SO/Macomb Township, MI). The 1-0 lead stood up until Alma tied the score with a run in the bottom of the sixth. UM-Dearborn answered quickly, as Hison drove in the game winner with an RBI single in the top of the seventh.

After Gina Verduzco (JR/Portage, MI) started and went the first five and a third innings, Alexandra Elwell (SR/Kalamazoo, MI) entered the game in the sixth to get the Wolverines out of the inning. Verduzco returned in the seventh, picking up the save for the Wolverines, while Elwell was credited with the win.

The Wolverines won despite being outhit 9-3, as UM-Dearborn played error-free softball and took advantage of two Alma miscues.

After a low-scoring opener, the bats for both teams came alive in the first inning of game two. Alma jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the inning, but UM-Dearborn answered right back with three including a lead-off home run from Taylor Moceri (SR/Sterling Heights, MI). LeeAnn Seidl (FR/Tecumseh, MI) added an RBI double, while Rachel Dolland (SO/Lake Orion, MI) knocked in another. The Scots regained a four-run lead with three in the top of the third before Elwell hit her first home run of the season to make it a 7-4 game. The Scots pulled away in the fourth with four more. Seidl added another RBI double in the seventh, but Alma held off a potential Wolverine rally.

Moceri, Hison and Seidl each finished with two hits in the loss. Four UM-Dearborn pitchers were used in the game with the loss going to Ashlynn Henderson (FR/Temecula, CA) after starting and going two and a third innings.

Against CCSJ, UM-Dearborn once again found itself in an early hole after the Crimson Wave scored a run in each of the first and second innings. Once again, Moceri had the answer, belting a two-run home run, her third of the season. Moceri came into the 2017 season without a home run in her career.

The Wolverines found a pair of runs in the fourth, including another RBI for Moceri and the pitching staff held on. Julie St. John (SO/Farmington, MI) started for the Wolverines, earning her first win of the season, going three and a third innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out two. Elwell picked up her second save of the season in relief.

In 10 games played so far this season, Moceri has 14 hits, three home runs, three doubles and 13 RBIs to go along with eight runs scored.

The Wolverines play three more starting with Nyack College at 9 a.m. Friday in Clermont. UM-Dearborn closes the day with No. 2 Saint Xavier University.
