
DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team opened the 2019 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference season against (RV) Lawrence Tech in front of a large crowd Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
The Wolverines started the first set strong, scoring the first three points and building a 9-5 lead. The Blue Devils used an 8-0 run to move in front and remained in control the rest of the match. LTU won in three sets 25-14, 25-13, 25-14.
The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 1-9 overall and 0-1 in the WHAC.
Regan Sliwinski led the Wolverine offense with six kills and .444 hitting percentage, while Gina Giacomini added four kills. Sabrina Giacomini finished with a team-high 10 assists, while Mallory Lynch led the defense with eight digs.
The Blue Devils (7-1, 1-0 WHAC) were led by Varvara Gromakova with nine kills, while Kristi Doherty had 20 assists.
The Wolverines return to action against Siena Heights University at 7 pm next Wednesday in Adrian, Mich.
