WOLVERINES DROP WHAC BATTLE WITH RACERS

The Wolverines were rolling early, taking the first set. After UNOH rebounded to go up 2-1, the Racers rallied from a late deficit in the fourth to close out the Wolverines in four. The set scores were 17-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-23. The loss drops the Wolverines to 9-15 overall and 1-12 in the WHAC.

UM-Dearborn controlled the match early, finishing the opening frame with 16 kills and just two errors. Gina Giacomini (FR/Plymouth, MI) closed the match with a team-high 19 kills and .302 hitting percentage. She added seven digs and one block assist on defense.

Senior Shayla Smalls (SR/Canton, MI) finished with 12 kills and a block assist, while Erin Parrinello (JR/Westland, MI) added seven kills, 10 digs, and a block assist. Sabrina Giacomini (FR/Plymouth, MI) recorded a team-high 20 assists, while Daniella Barile (SO/Plymouth, MI) added 19. The Wolverine defense was led by Heather Roberts (JR/Flint, MI) with 17 digs and Caitlyn Carlson (JR/Armada, MI) added 11.

The Wolverines close the 2017 regular season on Senior Night against Lawrence Tech at 7 pm Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse. UM-Dearborn will honor seniors Bri Alspaugh (SR/St. Louis, MI), Shayla Smalls and Christina Oakley (SR/Novi, MI).
