Early flourish leads SHU past UM-Dearborn women

RIVERVIEW, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's soccer team fell to Siena Heights University in a midweek Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest Wednesday at Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Mich.

The Wolverines got a late goal, but could not overcome an early deficit, as SHU took the contest 5-1, dropping UM-Dearborn to 1-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the WHAC.

Freshman Breana Pheiffer scored her first goal as a Wolverine, breaking free off a cross-field pass from junior Jenna Rogers in the 58th minute. Pheiffer settled the long pass, beat her defender and put the ball over the Saints' goalkeeper, into the net.

Sophomore Jordan Anheuser made 10 saves for the Wolverines. Anheuser has played every minute in the goal of the seven UM-Dearborn games this season.

SHU outshot UM-Dearborn 30-7, as Taylor Mulder scored three times and Genesis Pena added two goals.

The Wolverines continue WHAC play against Concordia University at 4 pm Saturday at Gabriel Richard High School.
