DEARBORN, Mich. -- In the Battle of the Wolverines, the No. 10 University of Michigan-Dearborn squared off against No. 4 University of Michigan. UM-Dearborn proved to be a worthy opponent against one of the top teams in the country outshooting their opponent 24-23, however, UM-Dearborn fell short in the contest losing 3-1.
The game was evenly matched in the first period, with neither team able to score a goal. In the second period, Michigan's Samantha Carr broke the tie with a goal at the 3:29 mark, assisted by Ava Heung. UM-Dearborn's defense played well in the second period but could not convert their opportunities into goals. UM-Dearborn fought back in the third period, with Andi Evers scoring a goal at the 10:39 mark, assisted by Finnia O'Neill Di Mascio, to bring the score to 2-1. However, Michigan's Julia Lindahl scored a goal at the 14:08 mark, assisted by Lucy Hanson, to make the score 3-1, and UM-Dearborn could not recover.
Despite the loss, UM-Dearborn's goalie, Kenna Borso, had a solid performance, making 20 saves out of 23 shots. Borso made impressive saves, stopping a 1-on-1 opportunity and a pair of solid stops on odd rushes.
