Fourth-quarter surge leads UM-Dearborn to 73-56 win

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team has turned the corner at the right time of the season as the Wolverines won a fourth straight Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest with the season approaching the postseason. UM-Dearborn ran away from the University of Northwestern Ohio in the fourth quarter of a win Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines outscored the Racers 24-8 in the fourth and pulled away for a 73-56 win to move to 17-11 overall and 10-8 in the WHAC. The win total is the second-most in program history, only eclipsed by 24 wins last season.

UM-Dearborn sits in a tie for fifth place in the WHAC standings with two games remaining in the regular season. The Wolverines have clinched a playoff spot and can finish as high as fourth, as Aquinas is a game ahead of UM-Dearborn at 11-7 in the league. Aquinas holds the tiebreaker over the Wolverines, having swept the season series.

Senior Sade Lemons kept UM-Dearborn close through the first three quarters against UNOH with her shooting from the outside. She finished with 25 points, including seven 3-pointers. Lauryn Carroll took over in the fourth, with 10 of her 12 points in the final 10 minutes.

Reigning UM-Dearborn Player of the Week Mariah Taylor continued her strong play off the bench with 21 points, six assists, and four steals. Ro'Zhane Wells added nine points, nine rebounds, and four assists.

The Wolverines shot 27-of-66 from the field, 13-of-40 from deep and 6-of-8 at the line while outrebounding the Racers 40-34.

UNOH was led by 13 points from Jada Haines.

The Wolverines close the home portion of the regular season schedule against No. 13 Indiana Tech on Senior Night at 5:30 pm Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
