Softball falls to Ferrum 8-3

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team dropped a matchup with Ferrum College Wednesday at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Down 1-0, the Wolverines rallied for three runs in the top of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. Ferrum responded with four in the bottom of the inning and three in the fifth to regain the advantage and the Panthers held on for an 8-3 win.

The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 2-5 this season.

The Wolverines tied the game when a wild pitch escaped the Ferrum catcher and allowed Kaylie McConnell (FR/Holland, MI) to score all the way from second. Later in the fourth, Meaghan Markus (FR/Mattawan, MI) singled home two runs to put UM-Dearborn in front.

The loss was charged to Julie St. John (JR/Farmington, MI), who pitched 1.1 innings in relief, allowing four runs, two earned on two hits and walked three. Markus finished with two hits, while Jordan Ewald (SR/Wixom, MI) added a double.

The Wolverines have an off day Thursday and resume play against SUNY Delhi for a doubleheader starting at 10 am Friday in North Myrtle Beach.
