ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team has won 13 straight games after a crucial Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference road sweep over Concordia University on Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Wolverines battled back on three occasions to take the opener 11-10, while UM-Dearborn ran away with the finale for a 13-1 win in five. The sweep pushes UM-Dearborn to 24-6-1 overall and 13-2-1 in the WHAC. The Wolverines are locked in a tie for first place in the loss column in the WHAC race.

The Wolverines fell behind three times to the Cardinals in the opener, but found a way to pull out the win. Heading to the seventh, CUAA led 10-9, but a two-run single from Kylie Hill (SR/Adrian, MI), after the Cardinals walked Kassidy Butler (SO/Parchment, MI) to load the bases, proved to be the difference.

Taylor Moceri (SR/Sterling Heights, MI) and Hill each finished game one with three hits. A triple from Moceri was the eighth of her career, breaking the UM-Dearborn record for triples in a career, passing former teammate Val Bertani. Gina Verduzco (JR/Portage, MI) got the win, entering the game in the third inning and pitching the rest of the way. She allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out eight.

Game two was all UM-Dearborn, as the Wolverines outhit the Cardinals 13-2 in the five-inning win. A six-run second inning was highlighted by a grand slam from Butler, good for her ninth of the season. Jordan Ewald (JR/Wixom, MI) finished with three hits, including a pair of doubles, while Butler, Moceri and Hill each added two hits.

Verduzco got her second win of the day, the 31st of her career, the most for any Wolverine pitcher in program history. She went five innings, allowing one run on two hits and struck out eight more. Verduzco is now 12-3 on the season.

The Wolverines continue WHAC play with a doubleheader at Aquinas College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich.
