Butler becomes first ever UM-Dearborn softball NAIA POTW

DEARBORN, Mich. - For the first time since 2013, a University of Michigan-Dearborn student athlete has earned NAIA National Player of the Week honors. Softball sophomore Kassidy Butler (SO/Parchment, MI) takes home the award after an incredible weekend for the Wolverines.

Butler was 10-for-12 at the plate with three home runs and four doubles in sweeps over Indiana Tech and the University of Northwestern Ohio Saturday and Sunday. She drove in eight runs and scored seven more, while picking up three walks. In the first game of the weekend against Indiana Tech, Butler sent two over the fence, getting the Wolverine lineup rolling.

Butler is now batting .516 (ninth in the NAIA) on the season with seven home runs and 29 RBIs. She leads the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference in batting average and in RBIs per game (1.32, 11th in the NAIA) and is fourth in the NAIA (first in the WHAC) in slugging percentage at .938.

UM-Dearborn is now 18-6-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the WHAC. The Wolverines host Cornerstone University at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Mich.
