Soccer Defeats Siena Heights 5-3

Brighton, MI - The men's soccer got back on the winning track Tuesday afternoon defeating the Siena Heights Saints 5-3. The win ends a six game winless streak for the Wolverines. Michigan-Dearborn (4-7-1, 2-4-1) jumped out to the lead just 13 minutes into the game when sophomore Richard Hodnicki took a pass from junior Matt McCourt and put it past Saints goalie Leo Hisamatsu. McCourt would give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead just 14 minutes later. Siena Heights (6-4-2, 1-3-2) would respond by scoring minutes later cutting the lead to 2-1.

The Saints would tie the game early in the second half, but then the Wolverines would take over scoring three consecutive goals. Junior Evan Behrendt would give Michigan-Dearborn a 3-2 lead midway through the second half. Hodnicki, who assisted on Behrendt's goal, would get his second goal of the game on a penalty kick. Hisamatsu made the initial save, but Hodnicki would be persistant and eventually put it in the goal. Sophomore Jad Hmadeh would score two minutes later on a direct kick making it three goals in a less than nine minute span for the Wolverines. Siena Heights would score late on a penalty kick making the final score 5-3 Michigan-Dearborn. Hodnicki led the charge with two goals and one assist while McCourt added one goal and one assist. Junior goalkeeper Erick Beas made six saves in earning his second win of the season. The men's soccer team will head to Grand Rapids on Saturday to take on the Cornerstone Golden Eagles at 7:00pm.
