Men's Soccer Earns First Victory of the Season

Brighton, MI - The men's soccer team took the field for an unusual 11:00am start against the Cleary University Cougars (1-4) at the Legacy Center in Brighton. The early start time did not affect the Wolverines (1-2, 0-0) as they jumped out to an early lead thanks to sophomore Richard Hodnicki. His goal off a penalty kick at the 11:47 mark of the first half got things rolling for Michigan-Dearborn. Senior Alek Vasilevski got the assist. Hodnicki would strike again during the first half. He took a pass from senior Mario Konja went wide on goalie Blair Moore and snuck it past him. At halftime Michigan-Dearborn would be up 2-0. Junior goalie Erick Beas made 3 saves in the first half.

The Wolverines would continue to hold on to the lead as junior goalie Aaron Johnson replaced Beas made 4 saves in the second half. To ensure the victory, Vasilevski would score from 10 yards out on a nice pass from senior Shahad Farahani. Johnson would keep the shutout in tact as Michigan-Dearborn earned their first victory of the young season 3-0. The soccer team will look for win number two on Saturday as they take on the Rochester College Warriors at 4:00pm at Lawrence Tech.
