SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team continued the non-conference season against Spring Arbor University Wednesday in Spring Arbor, Mich.
The Wolverines (RV) and Cougars (RV) battled through a tight contest in regulation, as the game moved to overtime. After one extra frame, the game remained tied, forcing a second overtime. The Cougars eventually prevailed 90-79, moving UM-Dearborn to 3-2 overall on the season.
The Wolverines were led by junior Mafiaion Joyner (JR/Battle Creek, MI) with a double-double. He finished with 24 points on 7-of-16 shooting while adding 10 rebounds. Senior Jason Penn (SR/Detroit, MI) added 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting and seven rebounds, while sophomore Cody Kegley (SO/Yale, MI) finished with 12 points.
The Wolverines shot 28-of-71 from the field, 6-of-24 from deep and 17-of-23 from the line, while finishing even in the rebound battle at 39-39 with SAU.
The Cougars got a game-high 31 points from Zach Medendorp, who finished 12-of-16 from the field.
The Wolverines return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play against Concordia University at 7:30 pm Tuesday in Ann Arbor, Mich.
