GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 2 University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team rebounded after its first regulation loss in 11 games to split a weekend series with No. 9 Davenport University Saturday at the Patterson Ice Arena Grand Rapids, Mich.
The Wolverines were led by a hat-trick from junior Justin Dunn, who pushed UM-Dearborn to a 4-2 win. The Wolverines improve to 12-2-1 on the season with nearly a month off for the semester break.
Dunn put the Wolverines on the board early in the first period. His first of three power-play goals was assisted by seniors Tyler Groat and Kevin Bechard. After the Panthers answered back with the next two goals, UM-Dearborn found itself down late in the second period.
The Wolverines pushed to tie the game before the break while on the man-advantage. Dunn found the back of the net at 19:59 to even the score at 2-2 before the intermission.
In the third period, Groat added the go-ahead goal before Dunn scored his third of the day to put the game out of reach.
Along with the hat-trick from Dunn, the Wolverines had multi-point nights from Groat, who finished with a goal and an assist, while Bechard and sophomore Billy Brock recorded two assists each.
The Wolverines return to action after the New Year as they host Western Michigan University at 7 pm Friday, Jan. 20, 2019 at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
