Hockey Completes Sweep of Rochester College

Fraser, MI - The men's ice hockey team completed the weekend series sweep of the Rochester College Warriors 4-3 on Saturday. On Friday night, the Wolverines downed the Warriors 5-2 at home with junior Gino Darin getting two goals and sophomore Ryan Urso assisting on two goals including setting up Darin on his shorthanded goal.

On Saturday afternoon Rochester College took a 2-1 lead after one period. Wolverines freshman Nick LaBurn got the scoring going with a goal at 7:12 of the first period with fellow freshman Tyler Groat getting the assist. The Warriors responded with two goals four minutes apart to take the lead. Michigan-Dearborn's freshmen would continue to score as John Barlow and Troy Saunders scored early in the second period giving the Wolverines a 3-2 lead. With just under five minutes left in the period the Warriors would tie the game, but that would not last as Gino Darin would score the game winning goal with a minute and a half remaining in the period. Urso recorded his second assist of the game on Darin's goal.

Defense took over in the third period as neither team scored and overall shots on goal were low as Michigan-Dearborn outshot Rochester 26-22 compared to 53-24 on Friday night. Sophomore Nate Ferris got both wins this past weekend giving him 11 wins on the season. The hockey team is off until after the New Year when they take on Oakland University on January 8th at home at 7:30pm.
