Freshman Tyler Groat Posts Back-to-Back Hat Tricks as Hockey Wins 6-0

Rochester, MI - The theme thus far for the hockey team has been the great play of the underclassmen. That continued Saturday night as the hockey team defeated Oakland University 6-0 . Freshman Tyler Groat, who had a hat trick in Friday night's 4-3 win, had another hat trick Saturday night. The hat trick gives Groat 11 goals in 8 games this season.

Sophomore Jeff McFarland scored his sixth goal of the season while fellow sophomore Kevin Filthaut scored his first goal of the season Saturday night. Junior Gino Darin was the other Michigan-Dearborn goal scorer as he scored his fourth goal of the season. Sophomore defenseman Ryan Urso had two assists on the night giving him 9 on the season. Sophomore goalie Nate Ferris had his first shutout of the season in getting his fifth win of the season. Groat's 11 goals lead the ACHA. Goalie Nate Ferris' 1.87 goals against average puts him third in the ACHA amongst goalies who have played in at least four games this season. The hockey team will look to extend their winning streak as they host Davenport on Friday night at 6:30pm. At the first intermission, Michael Macari, a four-time First-Team All-American who played from 2008-12, will have his jersey retired.
