Aarif Deen is entering his first year as the first graduate student staff assistant for the UM-Dearborn Department of Athletics & Recreation

Deen, a native of Ottawa, Ont., has assisted the Sports Information Director since 2016-17 and will take on a more in-depth role as the staff assistant. He will help maintain the athletics website as well as social media, game day programs and press releases. In addition to working under the supervision of the Sports Information Director, Deen also assists the Academic and Life Skills Coordinator with day-to-day tasks.

Deen returned to the University of Michigan-Dearborn as an M.B.A. candidate in 2017 after graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism in 2013. He is set to complete his master’s in April 2019.

During his time in undergrad, Deen covered the UM-Dearborn men’s hockey team for two seasons. Upon completing his bachelor’s degree, his writing was featured on DenverPost.com and NHL.com on multiple occasions.
