HALL OF FAME: MEN'S BASKETBALL'S PATRICK HUGHES

DEARBORN, Mich. – On February 8, 1997, Patrick J. Hughes put together one of the most memorable performances in the history of the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball program, setting a new standard for scoring excellence that remains the high-water mark for the Wolverines to this day.

Against Spalding University at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse, Hughes poured in a career-high 41 points, including a record nine 3-pointers for the then-known-as Wolves. The record performance moved Hughes to the top of the UM-Dearborn all-time scoring list with 1,849 career points, surpassing Abrahim Baydoun.

The records and accomplishments of Hughes have earned him the honor of being named to the inaugural class of the UM-Dearborn Athletics Hall of Fame. Hughes, along with four other UM-Dearborn legends, will be inducted into the newly formed Hall of Fame at a banquet set for 7 pm Thursday In the Michigan Room of Fairlane Center South in Dearborn.

Hughes did not miss any of the 130 games in his four-year career finishing with 1,962 points. He remains the Wolverines all-time leading scorer. At the end of his career, Hughes also held records for career games played (130), career 3-point field goals (410), 3-point field goals made in a season (133) and 3-point field goals made in a game (9). His list of honors included team captain in his junior and senior seasons, NAIA Great Lakes All-Region in 1996-97 and six all-tournament team selections.

Hughes graduated from UM-Dearborn in 1998 with a BS in Mathematics with a double minor in Economics and Statistics. As a professional, Hughes earned success early on as an executive and entrepreneur in the Metro Detroit area. He has worked with several early-stage companies that provide e-commerce solutions.

Patrick and his wife Terry Hughes have been married for 17 years and have three children, Hope, Jack, and Anna. Hughes and his family now reside in Birmingham, Mich.

Hughes joins fellow inductees, Jesse Hubenschmidt (Men's Ice Hockey), Diane Calliway (Women's Basketball), Mike "Gib" Gibson (Former Volleyball Head Coach) and Dr. Peggy Foss (Former UM-Dearborn Director of Athletics) in the first class to be honored by the UM-Dearborn Athletics Hall of Fame.
